A group of civil entities released yesterday a “Letter to citizenship” summoning her to participate en masse in the primaries of September 12.
“Democracy is not in quarantine,” is the title of the text signed by the Argentine Political Club, CIPPEC, the Business Convergence Forum, the Buenos Aires Bar Association, Conscience Association, Rural Society, ACDE, YMCA and Fundación República, among other organizations.
“Voting is a right. We have had 38 years of uninterrupted exercise of democracy and since 2012, the youngest of 16 and 17 years old can vote. Elections are a key moment for democracy. The exercise of the right to vote guarantees keeping the republican system alive”, They affirm.
The text goes on to say: “Voting is also an essential activity in our lives and has an impact on our future. With proper care it does not present a greater risk than the tasks we do daily, such as going to the supermarket, the pharmacy, the greengrocer, to the bank, to school to meet with the family or go out to the park. The limitations that the pandemic imposes on us they should not limit us in our sacred right to vote“.
It also maintains that “all prevention and care measures are guaranteed. The protocols have been drawn up by the National Electoral Chamber, the National Electoral Directorate and approved by the National Ministry of Health.”
In another paragraph, it states that “ensuring the exercise of the right to vote by guaranteeing the security of the electoral act is the best way to keep Argentine democracy healthy. In legislative elections we elect representatives to Congress and they are key to ensure the balance of powers. The offer of the PASO elections on September 12 makes them attractive and competitive as much as the general elections on November 14. “
It also points out that “keeping us informed regarding the existence of protocols, special schedules for at-risk citizens, the incorporation of a health facilitator among other initiatives, as well as using a chinstrap and the protection of social distancing that will be fulfilled during the electoral process is key to the exercise of our right “.
The letter ends by stating: “For this reason, we ask you for a commitment to our democracy, to transmit this initiative in order to attend a new electoral act with confidence and enthusiasm. There is nothing more important than exercising the right to vote. Let nothing paralyze our rights. and the exercise of freedom “.
Among other entities, they also sign: Citizen Movement Ficha Limpia, Constituya, Observatory of Electoral Studies (UNLP), Culture for Democracy, Red Encuentro Ciudadano (REC), Federal Citizen Union, Democracy and Consensus (DEYCON) and AsociaciónCivil Plan País.
