Despite the fatigue, the Nerazzurri pass with the Turkish player in the first half, close it in the second half with a penalty from Toro and complete the perfect week.
Inter completed the perfect week by beating Venice 2-0 (Calhanoglu’s goal and Lautaro’s penalty) and hoisting themselves up for a night just one point behind the leaders Milan and Naples. After the battles against Campania and Shakhtar, the Nerazzurri showed great maturity by managing their energies and conceding little or nothing to the opponent. One of those “dirty” victories that can make a difference in a championship. After the third success in a row in the Champions League (with return to the round of 16 after 10 years), he comes fourth in the last 5 in the league. The competition is forewarned.
First half
–
Zanetti chooses Kiyine to complete the offensive trident with Aramu and Okereke. In the median Ampadu, Vacca and Busio. Inzaghi, on the other hand, renounces the turnover, surprises with Bastoni at the center in place of Ranocchia (Dimarco on the left), confirms Darmian and Perisic on the flanks and prefers Correa to Lautaro to support Dzeko. The Nerazzurri are immediately under pressure, even if when they reach the trocar they fail to be really dangerous. The hosts struggle to go out with the dribble but have the merit of never losing distance, remaining compact and tidy, with a very low line. The show, however, in the first third of the race suffers.
Even the exteriors of Inzaghi, sparkling in the latest releases, seem to suffer from fatigue. Yet it is they at the stroke of half an hour who create the first real danger of the match, with Romero forced to fly on Perisic’s header, triggered by Darmian. Inter remains camped close to the opponent’s area, but never tries it from outside. When at 34 ‘Calhanoglu loads the right but the box opens. Ball in the corner, thanks to a rebound on the wet ground. The game finally comes to an end. Perisic nearly repeats the goal against Napoli and in the 39th minute Aramu invents a great left foot that forces Handanovic to save for a corner.
Second half
–
No changes during the interval, even if it is clear that Zanetti would need more weight in attack, with the two attacking midfielders unable to support Okereke. Even if Aramu comes up with another left-handed conclusion that doesn’t come out much. Instead, the first substitutions are made by Inzaghi, with Lautaro and Vecino taking over Correa and Calhanoglu in the 57th minute, also to try to shock a team that is lowering the center of gravity, thanks to the pressure of Venice. Inter continues to lean to the left, where Barella is now moving, although he is not at his best. Skriniar with a header could close it, but Haps saves with his knee on the line and then Vecino involuntarily blocks Dzeko. Now Zanetti is also moving: in Johnsen for Mazzocchi, with Ampadu climbing full-back.
With Venezia forced to uncover, Dzeko eats the 2-0 at the end of a rugby action in the 69th minute. And immediately after Darmian stops for a resentment in his left thigh: it’s Dumfries’ turn. Zanetti responds with Tessmann and Henry for Aramu and Vacca. The hosts produce the maximum effort, also because Inter pays the effort after Napoli and Shakhtar and does not have the clarity to restart effectively, often preferring to lose a playing time to manage the ball. D’ambrosio and Gagliardini (for Perisic and Barella, with Brozovic the only survivor of the initial 5 midfielders) close Inzaghi’s swirl of substitutions, with the former Torino who makes Dimarco get up, immediately dangerous in the restart, but Romero is there. The former Forte (he made his Nerazzurri debut with Stramaccioni) is the last bullet for Zanetti. But to close it is a penalty in full recovery by Lautaro.
