Cáceres’ candidacy to be European Capital of Culture in 2031 is gaining strength. The mayor of the city, Rafa Mateos, has taken advantage of his time at the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur) to remember the importance of this project, and has encouraged people to work with ambition and drive to achieve the goal. “Traveling to Cáceres is creating an indelible memory, it is feeling that you want to return to a unique city that will leave its mark on you forever,” he declared.
Mateos has reviewed the historical and cultural legacy of the city, from the great music festivals to Holy Week, passing through the Lavanderas, the Maltravieso Cave and the museums.
The president of the Extremadura Regional Government, María Guardiola, and several councilors from the municipal corporation also attended the presentation. There has also been the writer Diego Doncel, who has highlighted Cáceres as “the city of adulation, understood as a city to be happy.” Doncel has considered that it is a resource that is important to take into account in the face of capital status.
