The catering industry and supermarkets have to close again at 8 p.m., the football stadiums remain empty again and the lights go out at 6 p.m. at events. If you want to go to the hairdresser or a clothing store, you can only go until 6 pm.
The cabinet wants to try to stop the rapidly rising number of infections with a ‘hard, broad blow’. After ‘complex’ deliberations – because cabinet members also reluctantly intervene, sources say – a mix of measures was decided upon.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte spoke of ‘an unpleasant message, with unpleasant decisions’ during a press conference. But they are ‘inevitable’, because ‘the virus is everywhere’. “In all sectors, under all ages.” And as a result, the ‘pressure on healthcare is extremely high again’. “Operations sometimes have to be postponed, sometimes for the second or third time.”
Rutte called on not to move the nightlife to home by inviting more than four people. “No parties at home for a while.”
Due to the measures, the public is also barred from sports competitions – also in amateur sports, while the cultural sector is spared. Cinemas, theaters and concert halls spring from the dance.
It is also striking that the 1.5 meter rule has made a comeback: the drug is back in force in all places where no corona admission ticket applies.
All measures will take effect tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. and will apply until Saturday 4 December.
Course
After those three weeks, the cabinet will focus on expanding the use of QR codes to ‘other sectors’, such as the workplace. According to Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health), it is a ‘targeted’ measure to ‘protect’ unvaccinated people.
In addition, preparations are being made to allow entrepreneurs to apply 2G policy, if they wish. That could affect unvaccinated people, because then only vaccinated or cured people can continue to have access. Now, after a test, unvaccinated people can still enter everywhere, but entrepreneurs will soon be able to keep them out. That resembles the model used in Berlin: pub owners can choose there. Those who opt for 2G do not have to work with fixed seats, those who opt for 3G have to.
De Jonge knows that critics see the 2G approach as a vaccination compulsion. ,,But that is not it. But the choice not to vaccinate also has consequences for others, because unvaccinated people more often end up in hospital.”
He thinks it’s necessary ‘this winter’. “The alternative is to close risky places and that is not fair to vaccinated people.”
The House of Representatives still has to agree to the QR extension and the 2G rate.
Rutte gave a ‘cry from the heart’ during his press conference. “That we all ask ourselves: is there anything more I can do? An extra step? Because measures only work if we all participate.”
New rules in a row (valid from tomorrow 18:00 until 4 December)
-Keep one and a half meters away in places without a corona pass
-Receive a maximum of 4 guests per day at home
-Hospitality and essential shops (such as supermarket or drugstore) close at 20:00 at the latest
– In cafes and restaurants the corona pass – and permanent seat – are mandatory
-Non-essential shops and service providers (clothing store, hairdresser, casino) must close at 6:00 PM
– Cinemas, theaters and concert halls are not bound by the early evening closing
-Audience at all sporting events – pros and amateurs – is not allowed. All sports activities can continue
-Events -including weddings- are allowed with a corona pass and a maximum of 1250 guests per room – with fixed seating. Final end time 6:00 pm.
-Work from home as much as possible
-After this ‘short blow’ with a brake on evening activities, the cabinet wants to offer entrepreneurs the option of working with a 2G protocol: only cured or vaccinated people are then still welcome. 2G then remains a choice, the House of Representatives still has to go along with this
– The rules start on Saturday evening, so the Sinterklaas entry can continue on Saturday
– Wear a mouth cap where no coronaps is required
-If a roommate is infected, the quarantine also applies to all other (vaccinated and unvaccinated) roommates
-A maximum group size per room of 75 people applies for MBO, HBO and WO. This does not apply to classrooms and halls for interim and final examinations
– The cabinet is introducing legislation so that the corona pass can also be made mandatory at companies where visitors already have to show a QR code (such as in the catering industry)
