The Albinegro team will play for the second season in a row in group E of the third division, the First National, with Sergio Amat at the helm
The most important local handball team, FC Cartagena CAB, has started planning the 2021/22 season at cruising speed. Once again, the Albinegros will compete in group E of the third division of this sport: the First National. Thus, the club has communicated 9 renewals and 7 signings in just eight days. A dizzying pace that aims to establish a base and maintain the category without struggling, as a priority objective.
The Friends of Handball Club (CAB, for its acronym) has so far announced the continuity of a large part of the block of players from last season, in which they competed at the required level avoiding relegation. Thus, there are 9 renewals confirmed today. They are the Andalusian pivot Alonso Jerez, the defender Julio Alberto García, the Cartagena side David Fondevila, the versatile Pedro Sánchez, the very young Pablo Reyes, Alberto Montoya and Roberto Amat, the referent goalkeeper Simón Hernández and the Brazilian Milton Vieira.
Referents and talents
Of all of them, the Cartagena Fondevila, a stout (1.86 meters) right-handed side trained in the Maristas quarry and knowledgeable about the house, is of special emphasis; the other club in the city, the Maristas, also matured Pablo Reyes for years; goalkeeper Simón Hernández is a classic and a reference for years at the club.
In parallel to these efforts, the CAB has gone with clear ideas in the market and has closed another seven incorporations in just one week, in this case high. One is the return of winger Ángel González and the other is the commitment to Alberto López from Jumilla, who has been standing out both in regional handball and in the Spanish autonomy championships. The Albinegra goal is covered this season with the arrival of the aquiline Juan García, an outstanding youth squad of a direct rival like Ritec Handball Águilas. In the front line, in addition, José Luis Molino, a youth squad player from Maristas with a past at UCAM, has recovered.
With experience in the Asobal league and in the Silver Honor Division, Diego Marín, formerly of Mare Nostrum Torrevieja, among others, lands, who is expected to give the point of seniority and decision-making. For the moment, the transfer chapter is closed by Pepe García from Algeciras, who already accumulates a lot of experience in the Primera Nacional with the shirts of the BM Ciudad de Algeciras and the Peña Deportiva El Capricho de Ibiza.
Continuity on the bench
This season, FC Cartagena CAB has also renewed a good part of its coaching staff. One of the legs of the project continues as is Sergio Amat, a man for everything in local handball. He will be the coach as in a good part of last year and will be accompanied by Óscar González. This one comes from Jumilla, knows the category and works in regional bases, both on the track and on the beach.
The competition for the Albinegros will start on September 24 with the visit to Levante. Just a week later, he will make his debut at the Central Pavilion with a derby against Ritec Águilas.
