The race for the world title this year was one of the most balanced and hard-fought ever. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton fought on every circuit, fighting with no holds barred and not hesitating to push themselves to the limit of the rules – and sometimes even beyond – to generate an advantage situation. Now an entire season will be resolved in one race, like in a Hollywood movie. In fact, the two arrive on the Yas Marina track with equal points in the standings and whoever does better in Abu Dhabi will be world champion. Hamilton’s former McLaren teammate, Jenson Button, he hasn’t tipped off his favorite for the world crown all year round. Just on the eve of the final race, however, the current commentator of Sky Sports F1 has finally decided to choose a name.
“Actually I think this is the first time I am able to pick a championship winner as well I think it will be Lewis“Said the 2009 world champion, basing himself”only on his performances in recent races and on those of Mercedes. I think the car is running well and I still think they have an advantage, so Lewis and Mercedes should be favorites“. The reigning world champion comes from a streak of three consecutive victories, which allowed him to recover a gap of 21 points on his Dutch rival. For the fourth time in his career Hamilton reaches the last race of the season with a real chance of becoming champion – in 2010 it was in fact just arithmetic. In 2008 and 2014 he won, in 2016 he lost.
“It would be his biggest victory in the championship – underlined Button without doubts – because he had a real fight on his hands. Obviously it also happened in 2008, but this [titolo] he is quite special because he is battling Max. They are two of the best drivers in Formula 1, but also two of the best at driving a racing car in general. For how the championship has developed, in terms of aggressiveness, throughout the season, it will mean a lot to whoever wins“, concluded the former British driver.
