Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska, commenting on the searches that took place in the American mansion of his relatives, said on Wednesday, October 20, that this is another attempt to develop the theme of “Russian interference” in the 2016 American presidential elections.
“Observing everything that happens in America, I never cease to be amazed at some transcendental stupidity of a part of the American establishment that continues to persistently promote this story about the allegedly colossal role of Russians in the US presidential elections in 2016,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
He also said that officers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted searches in the homes of his relatives in order to find “money (Russian President Vladimir – Ed.) Putin”, writes “Gazeta.ru“.
In addition, according to the businessman, the former US President Donald Trump was helped to defeat the “dumb heads from Washington” who brought his electorate to the point that he was ready to vote for anyone.
Instead of solving internal problems, the United States is again looking for an enemy, but they will have to stop, since the country’s national debt is already almost $ 30 trillion, Deripaska said.
On October 19, information appeared that the houses of Deripaska, included in the US sanctions lists since 2018, were being searched. FBI officers conducted searches in the homes of a businessman in New York and Washington. On October 20, after hours of search, FBI officers left the mansion owned by Deripaska’s relatives in Washington and took out many boxes and suitcases.
Commenting on the searches, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin has no information about what they are connected with. At the same time, he stressed that Russia will defend the rights of its citizens.
The United States imposed sanctions against 24 Russian individuals and 14 legal entities due to the “situation in Ukraine” and “interference” in the 2016 presidential elections. Oleg Deripaska, who at that time was the head of Rusal, also got into them. The sanctions list included, among other things, En + Group, GAZ Group, Basic Element and Eurosibenergo.
