Eurogamer.net was able to interview Kieran Crimmins, creative director at Criterion Games, a team currently working on Need for Speed Unbound. Criterion Games however, it is also known for Burnouts, the long-retired driving game series. Is there a future for such IP? The magazine asked Crimmins that, while admitting that there is nothing in development, the team would certainly like to go back to work on a Burnout.
Precisely, Eurogamer.net asked: “There could be a Burnout in your future? I know a lot of people still have a huge passion for that show.”
There Answer by Kieran Crimmins was, “Yeah, absolutely. I hope so. It’s not something we’re thinking of doing right now. Right? It’s not my next game or anything like that. Not that I can say it’s not, but I think I can say that it’s not the next game I’m going to be working on. But if we talk about the two games that the studio is very passionate about, they’re obviously Need for Speed and Burnout. We love these two franchises, and Burnout has a unique approach to racing that I think would be absolutely phenomenal. So I guess what I mean is I’d really like to do that. And I hope that if all goes well with these games, and if we can expand the team, then maybe we can do a Burnout as well. It’s not in the plans for the immediate future or anything like that, but that would be really fun.”
Need for Speed Unbound will be available from December 2, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-load times were also indicated, as was the availability of a 10-hour demo on Game Pass Ultimate.
