Bundeswehr General Carsten Breuer is pushing for a speedy military service in Germany. He points to the threat posed by Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
Berlin – There is a lot for him to do, even in the height of summer. Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) found out about the capabilities of the Bundeswehr’s ABC Defense Command in Bruchsal (Karlsruhe district) during his summer tour on Monday (22 July).
Boris Pistorius’ plans: Carsten Breuer advocates conscription in Germany
Meanwhile, Pistorius is wrangling in Berlin with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the traffic light federal government for significantly more money for the German armed forces than is provided for in the federal budget for 2025. Only in June, the 64-year-old from Lower Saxony presented his plans for the new conscription in Germany, which is to be voluntary.
He wanted “the best” for the Bundeswehr, the Defense Minister declared on June 12. The Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, Carsten Breuer, now strongly advocated the military service model proposed by Pistorius. He did so with very clear warnings about Russia and Vladimir Putin’s Moscow regime.
Plans for conscription in Germany: Questionnaires for young men and women
“We urgently need military service because it will train the future reservists that we will need to be able to rely on in the event of a defence,” the general told the Daily MirrorThe new military service model is “a signal to the outside world” and a “deterrent measure”. Breuer hopes that “soon all young men will have to fill out a questionnaire and come into contact with the troops”.
Pistorius and Breuer’s plan calls for young men in particular, but not only them, to fill out a questionnaire about their willingness and ability to serve. In a second step, they will be drafted if they are selected. Military planners are reportedly assuming that 400,000 young people in Germany will have to fill out the questionnaire every year. Theoretically, 40,000 of the candidates will be eligible for basic military service each year, and the most suitable will be identified. The implementation will involve all men and women with a German passport who turn 18 receiving an official letter from the Bundeswehr on their birthday – the questionnaires.
Pistorius’ conscription plans: Bundeswehr General Breuer makes it clear
The imperialist Russian regime of Putin serves as a cautionary tale in the Ukraine war. Breuer wants to “appeal to the young people in our country to confront one question: Am I prepared to defend Germany?”, explained the General of the German Army in Daily MirrorBreuer continued: “Our country, our society, and especially our freedom, are worth defending.” (pm)
