Merz: The AfD is the most important opponent of the Union
“All major directional decisions in our country combine with our name. And a lot of these decisions have been tough.” Merz counts: Adenauer, Westbinde, NATO accession, Erhard and the social market economy, Kohl and German unity. Tenor of his speech: The important decisions for Germany have always made the Union. And now, the CDU boss indicates, the country is back on a crossroads, and it would be well advised to take the further trip with a Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Anyone who has doubts about Merz’s confession to the fire wall after the turbulent last week in the German Bundestag, when the Union had an effect on three occasions on three occasions, is devoted to the next section of the speech. It is an anti-AfD address: “We will not work together with this party, which is alternative for Germany,” promises Merz. The AfD stands against everything that the CDU stands for. “That’s why we want to do everything we can to make up for this party.” The AfD is the most important opponent of the CDU, “we want to make it a marginal phenomenon again,” says Merz.
