For a medal hunt left Jimi Salosen the race ended in the humpback final with tears of disappointment.

Expectations for the experienced skier were high as he finished fourth in Friday’s qualifier.

However, the medal hunt ended in the first round of the final, where Salonen dropped out.

What exactly happened?

“After the top jump, I just couldn’t get along. It so happened that I had to land in the yard. Yes, it weighs in. ”

Salonen estimates that the jump came down so skewed that the next mound went badly and eventually the grip on the snow disappeared.

More specifically, Salonen also admitted that “shit feels like that after all.”

“It simply came to our notice then. Looking ahead, ”he encouraged himself

Hard the disappointment is no wonder, as the medal was within the reach of Salonen on the Beijing Olympic slope during the upswing.

Emotions erupted a little later on the edge of the stadium into tears as the head coach of the humpbackers Eemeli Kallas took Salonen and was also eliminated in the first round of the final Olli Pentetlen to a warm hug.

Salonen had feelings on the surface, not least because he had been separated from his family for two months. In addition to the spouse, a kindergarten-aged daughter is waiting at home.

“We set off on a trip last year.”

Salonen already made sense of the trip home, but he would have preferred to go there with the Olympic medal. Now he has to wait for his trip home on Wednesday.

“Phones exist, they keep in touch. There is no other way. ”

Salonen, 27, has traveled to the sharpest peak of a different kind of road. Salonen from Muurame was close to a breakthrough as early as the mid-2010s.

In the 2015–2016 season, he finished fifth in the overall World Cup, but it was also followed by a few quieter years.

In 2017, she got something else to think about when her firstborn daughter was born into the family. Salonen has said that sometimes my father’s thoughts ran out of household chores, and the training did not always go best. The child and family went ahead of the sport.

Salonen has previously said that the third Olympics of his career were his last. However, after the Beijing final, he did not reveal what will happen next.

“Let’s get lost. I haven’t locked anything yet. ”

But will the career continue?

“It simply came to our notice then. Let’s go to the end of this season and think about what to do. ”

Olli Penttala was also disappointed with the end of the Olympic contract. Penttala was 19th among 20 counters with 74.68 points,

“It was a pretty good fall, but there were not enough points. I was upset about something. ”

“Fortunately, I made it to the finals, but it’s annoying that I didn’t get the most out of the finals.”

Sweden is good at gold Walter Wallbergwho left the Olympic champion and six-time world champion Mikael Kingsbury to silver.

Before Salonen had not seen his family in Beijing for two months when the race trip to North America was delayed due to the corona situation.

Athletically, however, the trip was fruitful. There was a working daily rhythm and counting routine.

The season made promises of a full hit earlier. Ruka had the fourth place in the opening cup of the World Cup and was sixth in Tremblant, Canada at the beginning of January.

The next step would be to compete in the World Cup, as long as you pop in at home in Central Finland.

Moguls has previously been one of the Finnish power species. The last Olympic medalist is Mikko Ronkainenwho grabbed silver at the Turin Olympics.

Four years earlier Janne Lahtela won gold in Salt Lake City and silver in Nagano in 1998.
