Bulgaria is in talks with Vadim Vorobyov, head of the Russian oil company “Lukoil”, about supplies of Russian fuel to Bulgaria ahead of the imminent European ban on oil imports from Russia.
Vorobyov said, during a meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, that government representatives in Bulgaria and the Russian company are discussing “possible ways to stabilize the economic environment and deal with inflation,” according to a statement issued by the presidential office.
It is noteworthy that there is a subsidiary of “Lukoil”, operating in Bulgaria under the name “Lukoil Neftokim Burgas”, near the Bulgarian city of “Burgas” on the Black Sea.
Lukoil Neftokim Borjans is the largest oil refining company in the Balkan Peninsula and the main supplier of fuel to Bulgaria.
Vorobyov said that a working group is expected to be formed during the first quarter of next year, to discuss proposals and possible problems that may arise when the European embargo on Russian oil comes into force in Bulgaria.
The European Union intends to impose a ban on the import of Russian crude oil from December 5 and on Russian oil products on February 5, while Bulgaria was exempted from implementing the ban until the end of 2024.
