Bugatti does not intend to take a step backwards from its vision of the future of heat engines in range. Mate Rimac, the CEO of the new Bugatti-Rimac company, was clear: the internal combustion powertrains will continue to accompany the new models of the Molsheim brand for a while longer. Rimac has always admitted to being in favor of electric cars, but when it comes to Bugatti, one cannot fail to consider the success that the engine has enjoyed for decades. W16: abandoning it completely would mean not honoring the hypercar business.
Rimac himself wanted to clarify a concept, however: not abandoning thermal engines does not mean developing cars that are powered exclusively by this type of engine. Some form of electrification it should therefore always be present, a detail that could make some traditionalist lover of the much vaunted W16 turn up their noses. In any case, electrification will not have an impact on the concept of exclusivity, considering that every new model developed by Bugatti will be built completely from scratch. Many car manufacturers nowadays apply the practice of “rebadging“To save costs, but this hypothesis was immediately rejected by Rimac: “On Rimac Nevera there are no components that can also be found on other models. We will do the same for future Bugattis, creating truly exceptional products that will not be comparable to anything else on the market ”.
Sooner or later, however, even Bugatti will have to convert to pure electric. Mate Rimac himself announced a few months ago: “I can confirm that within this decade there will be a fully electric Bugatti, but by 2030 there will also be Bugatti combustion engine models with different levels of electrification. I am a car enthusiast. We are not going to just recycle what we have, we are not redesigning the Chiron or hybridizing it. We are developing a completely new product because we think it is the best way to start this journey together “.
