SUCCESS Corporation announced his new title, Buccanyar. A “naval tower offense game” is definitive and will arrive in the spring of 2023 in Japan, on PlayStation 4 And Nintendo Switch.
The title, developed by Saizensen studywill be the center of attention of the company during the Tokyo Game Show 2022but, already on the occasion of the announcement, numerous details were disclosed.
A long time ago the world of Buccanyar he was struck by a terrible calamity which caused almost all of his lands to sink into the sea. The sea creatures underwent transformations, leading the survivors to refuse to sail the seas, until a mysterious winged giant appeared out of nowhere to give the inhabitants of the mainland the “Light of Judgment“, Ushering in a new era of marine exploration. The events of Buccanyar are set in this era, called “Age of the Blue Sea“, And they see three young heroines plotting new routes.
Halfway between strategic and management, the gameplay is divided into two modes: the “Voyage Mode” and the “Harbor Mode“. In the first we will be called to sail the seas with our crew of cats, controlled by the AI, discovering new lands and facing other vessels and dangerous creatures in naval battles. In Harbor Modeinstead, we will be able to dedicate ourselves to recruiting new crew members, trading resources, and customizing our ship.
With a large number of components with which to modify (or build from scratch) your ship, Buccanyar it promises a very deep title, in which it will be possible to adapt the war arsenal of the vessel to our style of play, selecting between drills, claws, circular saws and much more. The combat system is defined as “Tower Offense“: During an attack, the player will have to assign the members of his crew to the various armaments and, at the same time, use the commands to give orders according to the enemy and the situation. This is only a partially automatic system, as the player will still have to pilot the ship and choose when to use weapons with limited ammunition.
The game also seems to lend itself a lot to replayability: defeating a boss will allow in some cases to transform a particular location into “Hunting Grounds”, territories in which to easily accumulate resources and experience points. The routes then, once freed from the enemy presence, will be immediately accessible by the player via rapid travel, and will be able to host random events that will lead to the discovery of new areas.
The game is directed by Toshinobu Kondowhile the character design has been taken care of Amika Minato (illustrator of Shining Hearts) and the soundtrack composed by Kenichi Arakawa. Bucanyar will be playable at the pavilion of SUCCESS Corporation from 15 to 18 September.
