It has been almost 20 years since the release of God’s Weeka 2003 film that was a huge success, in which Bruce Nolanplayed by a magnificent Jim Carrey, receive the powers of God for one weekinterpreted by Morgan Freeman. The director has taken a unique approach to religion and theology. The film was a financial success and eventually spawned a sequel, spearheaded by Steve Carrell in 2007. It seems, however, that the future looked almost entirely different.
In a recent interview with SYFY WIRE, the screenwriters Steve Koren and Mark O’Keefe revealed that they initially proposed a tentatively titled sequel to the film Brucifer, which would have given Bruce the powers of Satan. The idea has earned Carrey’s support and was pitched to Universal Pictures until 2010, but ultimately didn’t materialize. Koren revealed:
His manager and he wanted to make Brucifer. We went in and pitched it, but it never worked, because it was later…It was going to be another giant movie and I don’t think they wanted to do it. It didn’t work for some reason, but a lot of people liked it, including Jim.
As Koren and O’Keefe revealed, the crash that would guided Bruce’s turn to hell would have involved his wife, Grace (Jennifer Aniston), being killed and then coming back in a way not unlike An American Werewolf in London.
