Brixton is working hard on the road. After an initial series of 125 and 250cc models, a 500cc was also unleashed on the world last year with the Crossfire 500. And for model year 2022, Brixton is now shaking up ‘a tough one’: the Cromwell 1200.
During an extensive factory visit, we gained more insight into how this brand is still very young. Brixton was founded in 2014, the first motorcycle saw the light of day in 2017. The brand operates under the wings of the Austrian KSR Group: the design is developed at the KSR headquarters in Austria, after which the block of one of the Asian partners is spooned into the frame. According to Brixton, this formula was chosen very consciously “because we want to offer good-looking engines of excellent quality for an acceptable price.”
The range consists of three model series: Cromwell (125, 250 and 1200), Felsberg (125 and 250), and crossfire (125 and 500). In addition to a number of X, XC and XS versions, there are also the standalone sunray and Rayburn 125ccs. “For the Crossfire line, we’re focusing on a sharper, more modern look around an X-shaped tank. The other model lines have rounder shapes and retro elements,” explains Brixton.
“The designs are drawn in our own R&D studio in Austria, where eight international designers work full-time,” it continues. “In our development department, three engineers closely monitor production in Asia, together with our partners and our on-site offices.”
For 2022, the brand is now also presenting the Cromwell 1200. While Brixton previously focused mainly on young, less experienced riders with a rather limited budget, it is now also targeting the older and more experienced riders.
The beating heart is a water-cooled 1,222cc parallel twin with 82 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 108 Nm @ 3,500 rpm, these are preliminary figures that may change slightly during the homologation process. The bike we saw during the presentation was indeed a prototype, albeit almost production-ready. For the components, Brixton went shopping at well-known suppliers such as KYB (suspension), Bosch (ABS), Nissin (brakes) and Pirelli (tyres). We also find on the Cromwell 1200: LED lighting, TFT display, ride-by-wire, traction control, cruise control, two driving modes (ECO and sport), USB port…
The final price is not yet known, but according to the brand itself, it should remain just below or at least very close to 10,000 euros. The Cromwell 1200 should be at the dealership early next year, available colors are Backstage Black, Cargo Green and Timberwolf Grey.
