Growing project
Qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello confirmed the good form that the Trackhouse team is experiencing, an Aprilia customer team that is in its first season in MotoGP. The American team experienced its first great moment of glory seven days ago in Barcelona, with Raul Fernandez. The Spaniard had started from the front row and had also led the Sprint race for several laps, before crashing. In Sunday’s GP he then finished sixth at the finish line, signing the best result of the season for the team.
Today’s qualifying sessions were also positive, albeit not with the same peaks. Fernandez passed the Q1 trap and then placed his Aprilia in 12th position, one place behind his teammate Oliveira. Davide Brivio commented on this result exclusively to FormulaPassion.it, also analyzing the team’s expectations for the two races today and tomorrow. The ambition is strong, also considering the presence in the garage of the American patron Justin Marks, owner of the team.
Trust Fernandez
“My feeling is that the potential is there – Brivio explained to us – then we have to put all the ingredients together. Raul Fernandez also set a good time in Q1 today. He didn’t manage to repeat it in Q2, but he had it. Miguel could also have gone faster, but he had some problems with the bike. We’re getting there: we’ve found a good base with both. Both feel comfortable with the bike and are happy. Then obviously for every race you have to find the right setting. But here we are.”
“The Barcelona race gave Raul confidence in his abilities – continued the Trackhouse team principal – in Spain he made a mistake, but he was able to keep that pace. He wasn’t ‘hanged’. Even in the long race he remained there with the leaders: this is something you have to learn. Miguel, however, was unlucky in these first races. In the tests we tried to find a set-up of the bike and since Austin things have improved. The potential is there. Double top-10 goal? We have not set a bar, the important thing is to always do better and continue to progress,” concluded Brivio.
