Telegraph: MI5 tasked with focusing on Russian spies
The British counterintelligence service MI5 was tasked with focusing on spies from Russia, China and Iran. The newspaper reported this The Daily Telegraph citing government sources.
According to the publication, the reasons for this decision were a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine, an increase in the number of allegedly Chinese agents in the United Kingdom and Iran’s alleged use of organized crime to put pressure on politicians. Because of this, MI5 devoted most of its forces to hunting down spies. At the same time, work to counter terrorism is carried out in parallel.
On May 8, Great Britain expelled Russia’s military attache from the country. British Foreign Minister James Cleverley said that London also intends to introduce restrictions on the issuance of visas to Russian diplomats.
