Britain’s Queen rests after a night in hospital

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will rest on Friday and perform some simple tasks after spending a night in hospital for the first time in years for what Buckingham Palace described as “initial checks”.
The 95-year-old Queen, the world’s oldest and longest-reigning monarch, spent a night in hospital but returned to her residence at Windsor Castle, west of London, the next day. Officials said she is in good spirits and is back at work.
The Queen canceled an official visit to Northern Ireland on Wednesday. The palace said that the Queen’s medical staff had asked her to rest and that her illness was not related to Covid-19.
“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen was admitted to hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary examinations, and returned to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today in good spirits,” the palace said late last night.
Aides gave no details of why the doctors were advised, and some media reporters covering the royal family said they hoped the official version of events would provide the full picture.
A royal source said that the Queen entered King Edward VII Hospital in central London for practical reasons, and that her medical team had taken a precautionary approach.
He added that she is now resting and doing some simple tasks.
And the source added that Queen Elizabeth, who is queen of fifteen other countries including Australia, Canada and New Zealand, returned to her office to work on Thursday afternoon and did some light tasks.
A spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he had sent his best wishes to Queen Elizabeth.
Elizabeth, who ascended the throne at a time when Britain was relinquishing its imperial power, has been a symbol of stability for generations of Britons, bolstering the monarchy’s popularity despite major political, social and cultural changes.
