Britain said on Sunday that Russia expanded its strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine last week and was likely to expand its targets further, as Ukrainians returning to areas from which Russian forces had withdrawn tried to find the bodies of their loved ones.
Britain’s Ministry of Defense said on Twitter that Russia had fired several thousand long-range missiles at Ukraine since the offensive began.
“Nevertheless, in the past seven days, Russia has increased its targeting of civilian infrastructure even when there is likely to be no immediate impact,” the ministry added in a tweet.
She indicated that the strikes hit targets, including an electricity network and a dam.
“While facing setbacks on the front lines, it is possible that Russia has expanded the range of positions it is preparing to strike in an attempt to directly demoralize the people and government of Ukraine,” the ministry said.
