Britain’s military intelligence said on Friday that Russia is ramping up the use of air defense missiles in a secondary ground attack mode due to the acute shortage of missiles intended for ground attacks.
The Defense Ministry said in an intelligence update that Russia has almost certainly deployed the S-300 and S-400 strategic air defense systems, which are designed to shoot down planes and missiles at great distances, near Ukraine since the start of the war.
It added that the weapons, which contain relatively small warheads, are designed to destroy aircraft and may pose a significant threat to forces in the open and to weak buildings, but are unlikely to penetrate strong buildings.
