Britain announces sanctions against Abramovich and six other Russian businessmen
Roman Abramovich and six other Russian businessmen were included in the UK sanctions list. This is reported in a British Foreign Office document posted on website government. In addition to the funds of the former owner of the Chelsea football club, the country’s authorities froze the assets of Igor Sechin, Oleg Deripaska, Alexei Miller, Nikolai Tokarev, Andrey Kostin and Dmitry Lebedev.
Abramovich and Deripaska were also banned from dealing with British individuals and legal entities and from entering the UK. For these businessmen, the country’s authorities also imposed restrictions on the ownership, registration, movement and use of sea and air vehicles (yachts, private jets, etc.). The rest of the Russian businessmen from the sanctions list were banned from entering the UK.
The Foreign Ministry document called the above-mentioned Russians “the richest and most influential Russian oligarchs,” with a combined fortune of about 15 billion pounds ($19.76 billion). According to statements by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, the new measures are indirectly directed against the current government of Russia.
The UK has already imposed a number of anti-Russian sanctions against the defense industry, financial institutions and the transport sector in Russia. The restrictions have already affected more than 500 Russian citizens, organizations and their subsidiaries. Among them was the largest Russian bank VTB, as well as Promsvyazbank, Genbank, the Black Sea Development and Reconstruction Bank, Industrial Savings Bank and Rossiya Bank. In addition, the British authorities forbade their citizens to carry out financial transactions with the participation of the Russian Central Bank, the National Welfare Fund (NWF) and the Ministry of Finance.
