SAO PAULO (Reuters) – BSBIOS, Brazil’s largest biodiesel producer, announced on Wednesday the acquisition of 100% of the MP Biodiesel plant, located in Switzerland, as part of a plan to position the company as one of the largest producers in the world. biofuel in the world.
The acquisition of the factory in Domdidier, in the Canton of Fribourg, which uses used cooking oil as raw material, marks a new stage in the company’s insertion in the international market, with emphasis on the European market. The group was already developing commercial relations with Europe from a subsidiary in Switzerland.
“We are proud to take this further step, which reaffirms our orientation to internationalize BSBIOS. With the operation, we became a multinational producer of renewable fuel, trading and operating second-generation biofuels”, said the president of BSBIOS, Erasmo Carlos Battistella, in a note.
According to the company, the production process allows the biodiesel from the Swiss unit to be considered second generation.
“The operation in the country has growth potential and the plant is located in the center of Europe, which gives us a strategic position on the continent,” added Battistella.
The company did not disclose the value of the acquisition.
BSBIOS said that it intends to make investments in the next six months to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing process, in addition to expanding the capacity and training of the commercial team.
The BSBIOS team is also studying the expansion of supply in the short term through partnership with distribution networks and expansion of the supply structure.
The acquired company has an estimated turnover of 45 million reais, with an annual capacity to produce 5.6 million liters of biodiesel.
The acquired unit also plays an important local role in providing an environmental solution to the issue of the proper disposal of Used Cooking Oil (UCO).
Following the requirement of local legislation, the plant exclusively uses canola UCO and, to a lesser extent, sunflower as raw material.
Another highlight is the quality of the biodiesel produced, which has a cold plugging point (CFPP) at -20ºC. In Brazil, the point is -5ºC. In Switzerland, the minimum blend of biofuel with fossil diesel is 7% (B7).
The Brazilian group, which has two industrial units, in Passo Fundo (RS) and Marialva (PR), with the capacity to produce 936 million liters of biodiesel/year, is also expanding its international operations through the construction of a renewable diesel and aviation kerosene in Paraguay.
