TOKYO (Reuters) – Brazil bounced back from a straight set disadvantage to defeat Argentina in a thrilling Tokyo Games men’s volleyball tournament on Monday, while world champions Poland bounced back from an unexpected defeat in the debut for Iran defeating Italy.
Current Olympic champions, the Brazilian team found itself in a very difficult situation, losing the first two sets and then falling 17-11 in the fourth, until achieving a recovery led by a series of blocks and powerful serves.
The tiebreak was played point-by-point until 14-14, but Brazil, which is looking for its fifth consecutive Olympic final, got the victory, securing the second triumph in two games in Group B, by 3 sets to 2 (19-25, 21 -25, 25-16, 25-21 and 16-14), after debuting against Tunisia
Earlier, Poland beat Italy 3 sets to 0 (25-20, 26-24 and 25-20) with 18 points from Wilfredo Leon, recovering from an unexpected defeat to Iran in the first round of Group A. Japan leads the way after beating Canada by 3 sets to 1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-20).
