Brazil registered 597 new deaths by covid-19 this Sunday, 11. The moving average of deaths, whose objective is to eliminate distortions between weekdays and weekends, had a drop of 20% compared to two weeks ago and is now at 1,296. It is the lowest level since March 2 this year, when the number was 1,274, according to data compiled by the consortium of press vehicles.
In all, the country accounts for 533,546 deaths from the disease and is second only to the United States. The number of new cases registered this Sunday was 20,396. The moving average of new infections dropped by 33% compared to two weeks ago and dropped to 45,701. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 19,086,184 people have been infected with the new coronavirus in Brazil.
The daily data from Brazil are from the consortium of press vehicles formed by state, G1, O Globo, Extra, Folha and UOL in partnership with 27 state health departments, in a balance released at 8:00 pm. According to government figures, 17.5 million people have already recovered from the disease in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
The balance of deaths and cases is the result of a partnership between the six media that started working, since June 8 of last year, in a collaborative way to gather the necessary information in the 26 states and the Federal District. The unprecedented initiative is a response to the Bolsonaro government’s decision to restrict access to data on the pandemic, but was maintained after government records continued to be released.
