Brazil recorded 18 new deaths from covid-19 this Sunday, 17. The weekly average of victims, which eliminates distortions between working days and the weekend, continues to fall, at 100 – the lowest since January 4 of this year, when it marked 98 deaths.

Between 20:00 on Saturday, the 16th, and the same time today, the number of new infections reported was 2,243. In total, Brazil has 662,011 deaths and 30,248,082 cases of the disease. The daily data from Brazil are from the consortium of press vehicles formed by Estadão, g1, The globe, Extra, Sheet and UOL in partnership with 27 state health departments, in a balance sheet released at 8 pm.

The balance of deaths and cases is the result of the partnership between the six media that started to work, since June 8, 2020, in a collaborative way to gather the necessary information in the 26 states and the Federal District. The unprecedented initiative is a response to the Bolsonaro government’s decision to restrict access to data on the pandemic, but was maintained after government records continued to be released.

+ Brazil records 2,541 new cases of Covid-19 and 22 more deaths

This Sunday, the Ministry of Health reported that 2,541 new cases and 22 more deaths from covid-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours. In total, according to the folder, there are 30,252,618 infected people and 661,960 deaths. The numbers are different from those compiled by the consortium of press vehicles mainly because of the time of data collection.

Since Friday, the 15th, the consortium of press vehicles has stopped publishing data on the number of vaccinated on weekends and holidays. The change is due to problems with updating information on the number of vaccines applied on weekends and holidays by states. The collection and dissemination of numbers of cases of covid and deaths resulting from the disease will continue to be daily.
