The reptile from the Amazon is treated as a pet
A Brazilian family, residing in the south-eastern state of Sao Paulo, has adopted as their pet a three-meter female snake, originally from the Amazon jungle, which they treat as if it were a “daughter” and which they called “Khatty”.
“I was inquiring via the Internet on how to obtain legal adoption and this is how I found Khatty: she came from the state of Parà, she is completely legalized, she is my partner,” said her owner, Djalma Monteiro.
The man lives with his family in Presidente Prudente, a city in the hinterland of São Paulo, where Khatty arrived eight years ago. The reptile is considered “quiet” but rather “greedy”, ingesting a good number of mice per day. According to its owner, Khatty is very popular at Presidente Prudente.
“The people who come to my house are happy with her presence: she is beautiful and charming, she is the princess of the house, she is treated with all the affection in the world, she is like a daughter,” explains Monteiro, 65. “My love for snakes started when I was a boy and was a fan of the singer Alice Cooper who wore one around his neck in his concerts,” he concludes.
