As you will surely remember, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense of Brazil was one of the first international organizations to question the acquisition of ActivisionBlizzard by Microsoft. Thanks to the fact that documents and statements from several companies are public, we got a glimpse of how Sony was protesting against this purchase. Nevertheless, at the end of the day this process was approved by this organization.
According to a document issued by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, the Brazilian body does not see any problem with the acquisition of those responsible for Call of Duty, since it considers that, even if this series becomes an Xbox exclusive, PlayStation has the necessary tools to continue competing in this market. This was what was said about it:
“Given the huge popularity of Call of Duty, it is reasonable to infer that if Activision Blizzard games were no longer available on Sony consoles, PlayStation users might decide to migrate to Xbox, or even PC, to continue playing. having access to the games of the franchise.
On the other hand, it is also reasonable to assume that if the next Call of Duty games became exclusive to the Microsoft ecosystem, players loyal to the PlayStation brand could simply abandon the series and migrate their demand to other games available on their favorite console. .
Exclusive games are a benchmark of the competition between Microsoft and SIE, although so far no company has developed or acquired an exclusive game that has decisively tipped the balance in favor of a console. This is because proprietary exclusive games are less popular and generate less revenue than third-party AAA games that were previously available on Xbox and PlayStation.
As already seen, Nintendo does not currently depend on any content from Activision Blizzard to compete in the market. In turn, Sony has several predicates: strength of the world’s leading brand for more than 20 years, extensive experience in the sector, largest user base, largest installed base of consoles, solid catalog of exclusive games, alliances with multiple publishers, consumers brand loyal, etc. – which should help keep PlayStation competitive in a possible post-Operation scenario, even in the face of a possible loss of access to Activision Blizzard content.”
Brazil was not the first country to approve this purchase, since a couple of weeks ago it was announced that the Saudi Arabian General Competition Authority had no problems with this acquisition. For its part, the United States Federal Trade Commission is expected to issue its response by the end of next November. Nevertheless, it is the UK Competition and Markets Authority that is currently deliberating this processand has until March 1, 2023 to reach a conclusion.

Editor’s note:
Despite the fact that various organizations question the purchase of Activision Blizzard, it is very certain that this acquisition will be completed worldwide. We are talking about almost $70 billion dollars, this is not an amount of money that can be easily repaid.
