As you get older you may find that your brain doesn’t work as well as it used to, and this is not unusual.
Keep your brain trained
As we age, the body undergoes many changes. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t have the power to keep your brain tissue younger. With just a few moves outlined in the tips below, you’ll find that function will improve as you enjoy greater brain power and avoid age-related problems.
And the best thing is that you can get started right away. Never underestimate the power of sleep for your brain tissue and your body. You need that rest so your body can recharge. The negative impact of sleep deprivation on brain tissue, and the body in general, can be quite harmful.
It has been shown that even a slight lack of sleep can lead to obesity, heart disease, hypertension, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s and more. Sleeping well 7 to 9 hours a night helps reduce the risk of these diseases and offers the tissue brain and body the best chance of staying healthy.
Eat foods that stimulate brain tissue. While you probably know what foods you should eat for a healthier brain, such as fish, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and fruits, it’s equally important to avoid certain foods. Highly processed foods and those containing fructose can age the brain and cause neurological damage, as well as harm the body. Choose fresh, whole foods where possible to give your brain the nourishment it needs.
Even low-level dehydration can cause symptoms in the brain and body. Your brain is made up of 73% water, which shows that your brain (and other vital organs) need enough water to function properly. When you don’t drink enough clean, fresh water, your body will suffer and you’ll see the effects on your weight, your skin, your energy level and your brain function. Give your body and brain what they need to best serve you. Try to drink at least 2 liters of water a day.
Did you know that social interaction has been proven to keep the brain young? It is true! Go to lunch, have coffee or tea with them, or simply invite them to visit. If you can’t meet in person, a phone call is best. Humans are social creatures and we need that human contact to stay healthy mentally and yes, even physically. Reach out and connect with someone at least once a week.
Do some mental gymnastics (and physical activity doesn’t hurt either!)
There are many things you can do to keep your mind active. Do puzzles, do a crossword, go for a walk and write in your journal. Neurofeedback is a great tool that can help you find relief from symptoms such as depression, anxiety and ADHDso you don’t have the added stress on your brain and body that drains you and ages you mentally. It is safe, non-invasive and painless. Train yours brain to relieve the mental stress that weighs you down and makes you age prematurely.
