No dude, the Brabus G 900 Deep Blue is just neat dark blue.
It must be nice that there is one model where three manufacturers or companies can earn a lot of money. That is the case with the Brabus G-Class. In the first instance, Mercedes earns enormously from it, because most of the development costs have already been paid. Second, of course, there is AMG. Most G-Classes are decked out as AMG. Not surprising in itself: a regular G500 or G350d is already very expensive, so why not go all-the-way right away. Finally, Brabus also earns a lot from it.
That company from Bottrop has been a fixed value for years when it comes to refining G-Classes. In addition to regular tuning parts and packages for the G63 AMG, you can also choose to have a completely new Brabus built. This is the last installment in that series Brabus G 900 Deep Blue.
Refreshing
The most refreshing thing about that car is the color. Brabus has a knack for launching all its models in black. That wasn’t just Bodo Buschman’s favorite color, the company’s founder. But there is another reason: in many cases these are customer cars or they still have to be sold to customers and they never find black a problem, but bright red or mint green is just a little too challenging.
Fortunately, this dark blue is a happy medium. Primarily because of the look. Even though it is clearly a thicker car, the Brabus G 900 Deep Blue is a lot more chic. Which is also handy, because the car is now dark blue, you can see the carbon accents better.
Of course it hits like the proverbial pincer to the proverbial pig to apply lightweight materials to an off-roader with a ladder chassis, but this is what one wants. And it’s Brabus, so everything is top quality.
Engine Brabus G 900 Deep Blue
The highlight is of course and fortunately still the engine! The Brabus G 900 Deep Blue has a heavily overhauled V8 under the carbon fiber hood. Instead of 4 liters it is now a real 4.5 liter engine. Of course, just about everything has been replaced on the block. In total, the engine is good for 900 hp (hence the name) and 1,000 Nm. The latter is set in software. To give the automatic transmission, transfer case and drive shafts a chance, 1,000 Nm is the maximum.
You don’t need it in itself. Sprinting from standstill to 100 km/h takes just 3.7 seconds. That’s crazy fast. Not so much for an automobile, but something the size of a Vietnamese spring roll stall. The top speed is limited to 280 km/h. Of course, the chassis is completely adapted to this. We don’t know what it does to the off-road ability of the G-Class. We suspect that the 24-inch wheels with flat tires provide slightly less grip on unpaved roads.
Total package
Interested in more blue products than just the Brabus G 900 Deep Blue? You can expand the blue collection with a speedboat, called ‘Brabus Shadow 900 Sun-Top Deep Blue Signature Edition’. It is also blue and also has 900 hp, albeit from two 4.6 liter Mercury Marine eight-cylinder engines.
The top speed of the boat is 111 km/h. The collection is completed by a dark blue Panerai watch, made of titanium. Everything together will cost you 1,180,000 euros. If you only want the Brabus G 900 Deep Blue, you will only have to pay 550,000 euros. Quite an expensive watch, so.
