LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Final box office figures for the movie Spider-Man: No Going Back Home showed an even larger audience than initially estimated, with a total of $260 million in US and Canadian theaters. Americans at the end of the week, announced the distributor Sony on Monday.
The brand takes the film to No. 2 on the list of best premieres in Hollywood film history, just ahead of $258 million for “Avengers: Infinite War.”
The film “Avengers: Ultimatum” holds the record for opening weekends in the United States and Canada, with a release of $357 million in 2019.
International ticket sales for “No Back Home” totaled $340.8 million, bringing the global total to $600.8 million.
On Sunday, Sony had predicted that the film would finish the weekend at No. 3 on the North American premiere list, with $253 million and a worldwide total of $587 million. Monday’s numbers included ticket sales from Thursday through Sunday night.
The performance of “No Back Home,” which stars Tom Holland as the hero and Zendaya as his girlfriend, has boosted movie chains such as AMC Entertainment and Cinemark.
Theaters are trying to recover from closures during the Covid-19 pandemic and now face new concerns about the Ômicron variant as the normally busy Christmas week begins.
