Las Vegas, Nevada.- David Benavidez took over the interim title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) after beating the Ukrainian, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, by unanimous decision 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109.
The ‘Red Flag’, with the belt on his shoulder, launched a new challenge to the undisputed champion, Saú ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, for waiting for his moment to confront the man from Guadalajara for the four super middleweight titles.
“We want to go down to 168 pounds to face Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez,” David Benavidez mentioned just after winning and maintaining his undefeated record in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Later, at the press conference, the fighter with Mexican and Ecuadorian origins heated up the hypothetical battle against Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez by saying that the Jalisco native should stand on the mat and defeat him to show if he really is the best fighter in the world.
«It’s a fight that everyone wins, the boxing world wins, the fans win and it’s the fight we have to do. If ‘Canelo’ really believes that he is the best in the world, let him come and beat me and shut my mouth,” launched ‘Red Flag’.
«Meanwhile, I am going to continue here containing and working hard. And I am going to continue showing you why I am the Mexican Monster,” said David Benavidez after being champion in his debut in the light heavyweight division of professional boxing.
