Cadillac one step away from the front row
Great performance by Cadillac in the Hyperpole of the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the US team coming close to conquering the entire front row. A feat denied only by the best time in the final stages of the session Kevin Estrewho with the Porsche Penske 963 ‘pushed’ Alex Lynn’s V-Series R #2 into second position (which however will start from seventh place due to the five penalty positions following the accident at Spa-Francorchamps) and the # 3 of Sebastien Bourdais.
Great satisfaction despite the near pole
There was certainly a bit of bitterness for the latter, a former F1 driver in Toro Rosso in the two-year period 2008-2009, but for the French driver there are still positive elements to take into consideration which have generated great satisfaction, as explained in the statements reported by motorsportweek.com at the end of the Hyperpole: “Was a really solid ride – said the four-time Champ Car champion – at a circuit like this you always leave something on the table, but at the end of the day I’m very happy with how we arrived. The car wasn’t at its best for most of the test, but when we took to the track for qualifying it was fantastic.
“When they told me I would only do one lap I thought there was no way and that I wouldn’t be able to get the tires up to temperature. We probably would have been too low on fuel to do three and two laps. At the end of the day, I was delighted that I was able to get that thing to work. That’s incredible and great for Cadillac. I’m really happy. We didn’t do anything wrong and now we can focus on the race.”
