São Paulo mayoral candidate Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) criticized this Sunday, the 22nd, the absence of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) in the debate promoted by Grupo Flow, scheduled for this Monday, the 23rd. Nunes justified his absence by alleging a busy schedule and saying that he has already participated in other debates, interviews and podcasts. Boulos alleged that the current mayor is running away from the confrontation.
“Ricardo Nunes needs to explain why he is avoiding the debate,” said the PSOL candidate during a “bike ride” on Avenida Paulista, in the city center. “I don’t understand why he decided not to go. Maybe because he is afraid of being questioned about the inefficiency of his three-and-a-half-year administration, which failed to meet its goals. Or maybe because he is afraid of being questioned about the scandals of his administration,” he added, according to a report by The Globe.
As the State showed, the debate of the Flow Group, responsible for the Flow Podcast and Flow News, was initially scheduled to take place in the Salão Nobre of the USP Law School. However, students called for a demonstration in protest against the presence of Nunes and Pablo Marçal (PRTB) at the school. As a result, the location of the event was changed twice: first to the USP International Diffusion Center and, finally, to the Clube Sírio.
The debate is scheduled for 8 pm on Monday, the 23rd. Boulos, Tabata Amaral (PSB) and Marina Helena (Novo) have confirmed their presence. Marçal’s campaign has not made an official statement, but an ally told reporters that he will participate. José Luiz Datena’s (PSDB) press office did not respond.
Bike ride on Paulista
The federal deputy dedicated Sunday to a single campaign agenda: a “bike ride” on Avenida Paulista, closed to cars and open to pedestrians on Sundays, a policy implemented during the administration of PT member Fernando Haddad in June 2016. At the event, Boulos praised the initiative of Haddad, now Finance Minister, and made commitments to urban mobility.
The PSOL member stated that, if elected, his commitment will be to create a “better city for cyclists and pedestrians”, offering incentives for those who use bicycles as a means of transport. The federal deputy reiterated his promise to install bicycle racks in all bus terminals and in subway and CPTM stations that do not yet have such equipment, as provided for in his government program.
