The first two free practice sessions staged in Losail turned on the green light on the weekend of Qatar Grand Prix, now in its first edition in the Formula 1 world championship. On both occasions, Valtteri Bottas he particularly distinguished himself at the wheel of his Mercedes, concluding in command of PL2 after taking a convincing third place in PL1. The Finn, who always finished ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, therefore recorded the best time in the test held at sunset, two tenths ahead of Pierre Gasly’s surprising AlphaTauri.
At the end of the activity on the track, the future Alfa Romeo driver commented on the sensations encountered at his debut on the Qatari track: “We started the weekend quite well with the set-up – he analyzed – the balance was already good, so we only resorted to a few small changes in view of the PL2. This is one way encouraging to start the weekend on a new track, the team did a great job with the preparations for this appointment “
“We are not far from our prime – he added – but of course there is always work to be done and I myself have to perfect my driving style here. You can’t find all the speed in just two sessions, so we will continue to do our best to try and improve. Today it is difficult to draw conclusions, also because it is still evidence, but the feeling is very good. All this is promising for the rest of the weekend“.
