The Williams case
On the eve of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix the Williams had formalized the multi-year agreement reached with Alexander Albon starting from next season, with the Anglo-Thai driver who will thus remain with the Grove team. In the British team, however, it still remains to be clarified what the position of his teammate will be Logan Sargeantwhose experience in Formula 1 risks ending at the end of this championship, or even before.
Antonelli or Bottas?
This last hypothesis arose above all after the exemption requested from the FIA for the possible debut of Andrea Kimi Antonellia 17-year-old from Bologna at the center of numerous transfer rumors as a probable replacement for Sargeant or even Hamilton in Mercedes, in the latter case from 2025. However, in Imola, the current Prema driver in Formula 2 seemed further from the dream of a debut in the top flight, this is because of a meeting between Valtteri Bottas and Team Principal James Vowles in the Williams motorhome.
Coffee grounds with Vowles
The media wanted to see clearly about this presence of the Finn in his former team, even more so when #77 downplayed the reasons for the meeting with these words: “It was for normal things, about life! Obviously, when you’re on the open market you want to check out what’s out there. It’s a pretty normal situation. I think that in the next few weeks things will start to move. This is the goal”. When the journalists present asked the former Mercedes player if there would be other coffees with Vowles, the 34-year-old remained vague here too: “I do not know. I like coffee, but I don’t know.”
Words that according to the Australian source Speedcafe and the Finnish one Vasabladetas well as planetf1.comwould make you think of a Bottas’ effective return to Williams from 2025a team in which he made his F1 debut in 2013 and remained there until 2016, collecting a total of nine podiums: “There are always rumors in F1 and we don’t pay attention to them – explained a Williams spokesperson to Speedcafe – We have an exciting driver line-up and our focus is on this year’s tight midfield battle. We always have one eye on the future and are evaluating our options for 2025 and beyond, but our focus is on maximum success in 2024.”
