Russia will not allow Belarus to suspend gas supplies through the country to Europe. This was announced on November 14 by the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell on the air France 24…
“Lukashenka (President of Belarus Alexander – Ed.) Put 35 thousand people in prison. If he could (cut off the gas supply to Europe – Ed.), He would do it, but the Russians will not let him, because they are selling gas, ”Borrell said.
The head of EU diplomacy also said that he agreed with the position of Russia on the need for direct contacts with Belarus on the issue of the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. He also noted that he does not believe in the idea of building a wall on the border of Poland and Belarus.
Earlier, on November 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he knew nothing about Lukashenko’s intention to cut off gas coming to Europe through the Yamal-Europe transnational main export gas pipeline. At the same time, the Russian leader stressed that such a thing would be a violation of the transit contract with Russia. The Russian leader also suggested that Lukashenka said about cutting off the gas “just in our hearts”.
The President of Belarus announced the possibility of cutting off the gas on November 11. He called such a step a response to the fifth package of sanctions, which the European Union can take in relation to Minsk.
European Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni stressed that the EU will not allow itself to be intimidated by such threats. Acting German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that the EU will expand sanctions against Belarus, as well as individuals and companies involved in the transport of illegal migrants to Belarus.
The European countries blame the Belarusian side for the migration crisis, which denies any involvement in the increase in the flow of refugees. The EU is discussing the expansion of sanctions against Belarus. Great Britain, the United States and the EU states on November 12 agreed that the Belarusian authorities artificially created a migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.
