Borrell responded to the ICC prosecutor’s statement about his intention to seek a warrant from Netanyahu
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, took note of the request of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and three Hamas leaders. All ICC member countries are obliged to comply with the court’s decision, Borrell emphasized in social networks X.
“I take note of the decision of the ICC Prosecutor to apply for arrest warrants in the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court against Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed al-Deif, Ismail Haniyeh, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant,” the statement said.
Previously, Netanyahu rejected the ICC charges, accusing Hague prosecutor Karim Khan of anti-Semitism. The politician emphasized that not a single decision of any international forum or the Hague court will prevent Israel from defeating the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip.
On May 20, Khan requested the issuance of an arrest warrant against Netanyahu, as well as the country’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Israeli President Isaac Herzog called the decision “a collapse for the world’s judicial system.”
