The trailer for Borderlands, the film inspired by the Gearbox videogame saga, has finally been released. But what does this film tell? The story of the first game? Or the second? Neither of the two, as it is a new story that we can consider parallel to video games. Furthermore, it is seen by Gearbox itself as the beginning of the “Borderlands Cinematic Universe“.
The information comes from an interview with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford by IGN USA. Pitchford explained what we can expect from the Borderlands film, underlining how the film is independent but still faithful to the video games, its themes and its characters.
Pitchford's words on the Borderlands movie
In the interview, Pitchford made it clear from the start that Borderlands it's not a simple reimagining of existing games. “One of the beautiful things about the film is that we created a cinematic universe that lives side by side with the video game universe. Of course the characters are present and authentic in the themes and even in some of the plots. But these are independent plots,” Pitchford said .
“So this is not Borderlands 1. This is not Borderlands 2. The Borderlands movie is the first in the Borderlands Cinematic Universe and you will see some characters from some different parts than what exists in the video games. But it also gives us the opportunity to go deeper and expand a little. You have never met the CEO of Atlas Corporation and you will meet this character for the first time in the Borderlands movie: his name is Deukalian Atlas.”
Finally, we leave you with the trailer for the Borderlands film.
