Last month Randy Pitchford, founder of Gearbox Software, had suggested the arrival of the cross-play for PS5 and PS4 versions from Borderlands 3, calling it “an inevitable addition”. And now the official confirmation has finally arrived during PAX East. Full cross-play will be integrated with a free Borderlands 3 update scheduled during the course of this spring.
For the uninitiated, the PS5 and PS4 versions of Borderlands 3 are the only ones currently that do not allow cross-play between different platforms. Once integrated, therefore, PlayStation users will be able to play together with those on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Steam, Epic Games Store and Google Stadia. In contrast, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the Borderlands fantasy spin-off available at the end of March, supports cross-play between all platforms since launch.
At the moment, a precise date has not been indicated for the cross-play of Borderlands 3 on PS5 and PS4, but as mentioned at the beginning we know that it will arrive during the spring, so barring unforeseen events within the next two months.
This is not the only news from Gearbox in the last few days. In fact, the studio has announced the arrival of Tales from Borderlands 2, published the first DLC of Tiny Tina’s Wornderlands and announced the acquisition of the Lost Boys Interactive studio.
