Health Minister Spahn has probably agreed with the medical associations on a wide range of booster vaccinations in Germany.
Lindau – Booster vaccinations should also become a central tool in Germany in the future so that the coronavirus pandemic can continue to be combated effectively. This emerges from a resolution proposed by the Federal and State Health Ministers’ Conference. Especially now that the number of infections with the coronavirus in Germany is picking up again and the nationwide 7-day incidence has torn the 150 mark, the health ministers see this step as necessary.
Spahn announces broad booster vaccinations – “Boosters should become the rule”
Previously, there had been disagreements about the exact implementation of the booster vaccinations. The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) initially recommended that only members of special risk groups should be given a third vaccination dose. These included people aged 70 and over. Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn then objected to the STIKO and called for a wider use of booster vaccinations, as is currently taking place in Israel, among other places.
Because of his statements, the CDU politician was criticized by the German medical associations for wanting to ignore the STIKO’s recommendation. These disputes were now apparently settled on Thursday. According to the Ministry of Health, Spahn met with experts to discuss the issue of booster vaccinations again.
It is now agreed that a booster vaccination should be made possible for all people who have been fully vaccinated for six months. There is a consensus both between the doctors’ representatives and among the ministers of the federal states, as Spahn explained. “Boosters should be the rule, not the exception,” the health minister told the German press agency on Thursday.
Coronavirus: Holetscheck also expects widespread use of booster vaccinations
A result that now has to be confirmed by the health ministers’ conference, which will take place on Thursday and Friday in Lindau, Bavaria. “I believe that together we can go one step further,” said Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek before the conference with a view to the booster vaccinations.
The unity referred to by Spahn is also evident from a draft resolution that Focus Online is present. “The federal and state governments jointly emphasize that booster vaccinations must be promoted and carried out promptly,” says the draft. Initially, the third dose of vaccination should preferably be offered in old people’s and nursing homes.
Booster vaccinations should be made possible for everyone after a resolution has been proposed
The federal and state governments want to rely on resident doctors and mobile vaccination teams. The proposed resolution also provides for the reopening of the vaccination centers, where further booster vaccinations are to be offered. Citizens over 60 years of age should be informed by the competent authorities about the recommendation for a booster vaccination.
According to the proposed resolution, a booster vaccination should be made available to everyone who has been fully vaccinated for over six months and who has previously received a medical consultation.
Coronavirus: Health ministers’ conference on Friday – vaccination regulation to be extended
As the final point in the draft resolution, the validity of the Coronavirus Vaccination Ordinance is to be extended until the end of March. This means that the federal government can continue to participate in the financing of state vaccination offers.
For several weeks, the number of new infections with the corona virus in Germany has been increasing again. Vaccination breakthroughs can also be observed again and again in completely vaccinated people. A booster vaccination should therefore further increase protection.
