According to a report by Veja magazine, the TCU audit showed an increase in government spending on accommodation and food
A confidential audit by the TCU (Union Court of Auditors) revealed that the president’s travels Jair Bolsonaro (PL), vice president Hamilton Mourão (Republicans) and the rest of their teams cost more than R$16 million to the public coffers. According to a report by Veja magazinethe expenses of the corporate card of the Presidency of the Republic refer to the period from January 2019 to March 2021.
According to the TCU, no irregularities were found in the accounts of the president and his entourage, but there was an increase in travel expenses.
Although auditors found no serious irregularities, the team criticized the secrecy of so much government data. The TCU states that, during the Bolsonaro government, 98.2% of the expenses of the Presidency’s corporate card in 2019 (7.3 million reais) had the confidential seal.
While in 2019, the government spent BRL 2.59 million on food, in 2020, it was BRL 1.17 million. With accommodation, costs were even higher: BRL 2.82 million in 2020; R$3.84 million; and R$921,300 until March 2021.
On-board services and airport expenses totaled BRL 6.32 million from the beginning of the term until March 2021.
Also according to the publication, the justification given by the Planalto for the increase in travel expenses is that President Bolsonaro needs a greater security apparatus and inflation. In addition, the government also cited the pandemic to explain the need to hire more rooms for accommodation, respecting a distance between employees.
In a note sent to Power 360the TCU said that the information present in the report was not disclosed by the court and the source “was not Secom”. “The matter is the subject of process TC 012.915/2021-1, reported by Minister Antonio Anastasia. The process is confidential and there are no public pieces”says the text.
O Power 360 contacted the office of the Palácio do Planalto to ask for a position on the content of the report published by the magazine, but did not receive a response until the text was published. The space remains open for demonstration.
