BRASÍLIA (Reuters) – President Jair Bolsonaro spoke again this Wednesday about his intention to privatize Petrobras and, during an interview with Rádio Cultura do Espírito Santo, called the oil company a “monstrengo” who, according to him, works to ensure that its shareholders do not take losses.
The Union is Petrobras’ biggest shareholder and, consequently, the biggest beneficiary of the dividends paid by the state-owned company. Bolsonaro has frequently criticized Petrobras’ profit sharing to its shareholders in recent days.
Higher fuel prices, which have been constantly readjusted by Petrobras, are among the factors behind the drop in approval for Bolsonaro and his government, according to opinion polls.
