President reaffirmed that Brazil is “one of the countries that suffers least economically” from the impacts of the pandemic
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) commented this Friday (May 27, 2022) on Brazilian economic difficulties and said that it is necessary to “Impossible things in the hand of God”. He made the statement in a speech to evangelical pastors during a convention of the Assemblies of God of the Ministry of Madureira, in Goiânia (GO).
“I dare say that Brazil is one of the countries that suffers least economically, taking into account the whole world. There is no shortage here. We have difficulties, but what is the solution to this? IT IS [ter] resilience, it is having faith, it is having courage, it is believing. Often, or almost always, bend your knees and ask for an alternative. We know we have to do our part, but things that are impossible to leave in God’s hands”said.

Since 2018, Bolsonaro has made nods to evangelicals, a robust electoral base that helped him reach the presidency. One of his campaign promises was to appoint a minister with this religious preference to the STF (Federal Court of Justice). “Terribly evangelical”André Mendonça was chosen.
In his speech at this Friday’s event (May 27), Bolsonaro also said that the pardon granted to deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) was an example given to the Federal Supreme Court.
“I could not see a citizen being sentenced to 9 years in prison in a closed regime, having his mandate revoked, becoming ineligible, being fined for having expressed himself. It doesn’t matter what he said. I exercised my power, within the 4 lines, even to set an example for the STF, signing the grace”, said the Chief Executive.
The president further stated that one should notto fear” the other Powers of the Republic. “We must respect the other powers, never fear. In this way, we govern with the strength of God, to be able to show Brazil where we can go.”
Bolsonaro again said that he may not comply with the implementation of the new time frame if the Supreme Court deems the thesis valid. The Court is expected to continue the judgment on the demarcation of new indigenous lands next week.
The Chief Executive reaffirmed his presence at the scheduled meeting with US President Joe Biden at the Summit of the Americas in June. He recalled that at the G20 – a meeting of the 20 largest economies in the world – he refused to present proof of vaccination and declared that he would follow the same conduct.
