BRASILIA (Reuters) – President Jair Bolsonaro said on Monday that the government should resolve this week details on the extension of emergency aid and also measures related to the price of diesel in the country.
“God willing, we will resolve this week the extension of emergency aid, as we should also resolve this week the issue of diesel price,” he said.
“The solutions are not easy, but we have an obligation to show the origin of the problem and how to solve it”, he added, at a ceremony in São Roque (MG) to launch a program to guarantee access to water in the Brazilian semiarid region.
The president said that he met on Saturday with ministers, including the head of Economy, Paulo Guedes, to discuss the extension of emergency aid in a value that “gives dignity” to the needy. The benefit paid during the pandemic ends this month.
In the case of the diesel price, the day before, three national entities of workers linked to the cargo transport sector announced that they decided to declare a state of strike and that they will start a national strike from November 1st if the federal government does not meet the claims that go back to the stoppage of truck drivers in 2018.
One of the main complaints of drivers is precisely the cost of fuel, readjusted upward several times in recent months by Petrobras. The average price of diesel in the country has risen by more than 50% this year.
