Audio shows former minister Milton Ribeiro saying that the president felt he would be the target of search and seizure
The president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) asked on Tuesday (5.Jul.2022) that the STF (Supreme Federal Court) suspend the order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes for the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) to manifest itself on his alleged interference in the PF (Police Federal).
The AGU (Advocacy-General of the Union) claims that there is already an investigation investigating alleged interference by Bolsonaro in the PF under the responsibility of Minister Cármen Lúcia. Thus, pointing to duplicity in the investigations.
The president’s defense refers to the Acesso Pago operation, launched on June 22, which investigates influence peddling and corruption in the MEC (Ministry of Education) involving former minister Milton Ribeiro. Calls for the suspension to be heard on the Supreme Court floor.
Moraes’ order, however, refers to a inquiry opened in 2020 to investigate alleged interference by Bolsonaro in the PF when he fired the then director general of the corporation Maurício Valeixo. At the time, former Minister of Justice Sergio Moro accused Bolsonaro of interfering in investigations.
Now the senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP) asked the Court to also investigate Bolsonaro’s alleged violation of secrecy and obstruction of justice in the MEC case. The request was sent directly to Moraes during the investigation that investigates whether Bolsonaro interfered with the PF in 2020.
The investigation carried out by Carmen Lúcia runs in secrecy. It refers to suspicions related to Ribeiro in the distribution of funds from the FNDE (National Fund for the Development of Education).
Investigation was running in the 1st instance, but it was transferred to the Court after the e-minister quoted Bolsonaro in intercepted audio. Ribeiro told his daughter that the Chief Executive had a “feeling” that he would be the target of search and seizure.
Milton Ribeiro was taken into custody on June 22, but released the next day.
