This Monday (5), the Social Security and Family Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved a proposal that doubles, while the pandemic lasts, the value of three benefits paid by the Bolsa Família Program.
With Bill 681/20, the basic benefit, intended for family units in a situation of extreme poverty, will increase from the current R$89 to R$178. The variable benefit will also increase. If there are pregnant women, nursing mothers, children between 0 and 12 years old or teenagers up to 15 years old, it will go from R$ 41 to R$ 82, being paid up to the limit of five per family (R$ 410). In the case of teenagers between 16 and 17 years old, it will go from R$ 48 to R$ 96, maintaining the limit of two (R$ 192).

In addition, the text provides that, in situations where it is more advantageous, these increased benefits of Bolsa Família will replace emergency aid. The only benefit for overcoming extreme poverty was left out of these changes.
According to Deputy Jandira Feghali, rapporteur of the project, the measure is extremely important, as the country is going through an unprecedented health crisis that affects the ability of families to obtain income. The project is being processed conclusively and will still be analyzed by other commissions.
