Colombian gymnast Andrés Martínez was one of the figures of the Bolivian Games for the local delegation, which won the title of the jousts, which ended this Tuesday in Valledupar.
Martínez won five gold metals by taking the titles on soil, individual general, pommel horse, men’s team and barre.

The Colombian athlete spoke with EL TIEMPO about his performance and warned that he was only thinking about the challenge of doing his job and not about the result of the medals.
“I am happy for what I have achieved, I cannot hide that. Winning five golds and being one of the multi-medallists in the country and at the Games is important,” said the athlete from Antioquia.
And I add: “I was clear that I had to do a job, that’s why I didn’t look at the issue of medals. I am satisfied with what I did, with what I got. The goal before the Games was to know my fitness for the rest of the cycle, not the medals, and I am very satisfied”.
Martínez pointed out that the idea in the fair was to consolidate, test the conditions in which it finds itself for competitions in the future.
“We have great potential in gymnastics. Before the Bolivarian Games, I always thought that my goal is to consolidate myself, work hard, comply with the routines, and that work will take me to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. What I did in Valledupar tells me that I am doing well, that I must continue like this in the other competitions such as the South American, Central American and Pan American Games”, he pointed out.
Although he was the best of the delegation, Martínez does not see himself as the visible head of this generation of Colombian gymnastics.
“The path was opened by several, among them Jorge Hugo Giraldo, Jossimar Calvo. Knowing that is key. Jossimar is still in this program and we hope that he returns in the best possible way. He doesn’t want to see me as the leader, because what we have shown is the unity of the group, that the country’s gymnastics raise their level. The key is to continue with the work, training hard, looking for alternatives to go to the World Cup and the Olympics”.
Daniel Martínez has two key challenges: in the Pan-American in Rio de Janeiro, which will go until July 17, and the World Cup.
