Boca Juniors fired coach Sebastián Battaglia after the elimination in the Copa Libertadores and in the midst of criticism from the Santa Fe coach for the absence of incorporations in this transfer window.
“The athletic Club Boca Juniors announces that Sebastián Battaglia is no longer the coach of the first teamor football and thanks you for your contribution throughout this cycle (…). Sebastián, Boca will always be your home. Many successes in your career,” the ‘xeneize’ club said in a statement.

From bad to worse
Battaglia’s dismissal comes after Boca was eliminated this Tuesday in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores against Corinthians.
After reaping two goalless draws both in the first leg and in the second leg, the ‘Xeneize’ was defeated by the Brazilian team in the penalty shootout (5-6).
In the press appearance after the match, Battaglia lamented the lack of reinforcements to face the maximum competition continental football and indirectly targeted the Boca football council.
“Surely we should have been more aggressive in the market. There are questions that one raises and from there they should be resolved and they were not resolved. What’s more, guys who were important have left, but they are situations that I don’t handle,” Battaglia said.
Argentine media warn that the first candidate to replace Battaglia on the bench is Ricardo Gareca, who was a club player.
Gareca could not take Peru to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, by losing in the playoffs and for now it is not known if he will renew with the selected one.
