A boat carrying tourists capsized near the Sakhalin coast on its way to the famous Aniva lighthouse. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the Border Administration of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for the region.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the incident took place on the evening of October 12. Tourists went on an excursion to the picturesque lighthouse. However, when the group did not return on time, the driver who brought the vacationers to Novikovo became worried and turned to the travel agency, which contacted the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
It turned out that on the way back, due to the strong and waves, the boat, in which there were five people, capsized. Tourists were able to swim to the coast on their own, although the water temperature did not exceed ten degrees.
The border patrol ship “Korsakov” left for the emergency area. The crew found a group of tourists on the shore, they gave signals with the help of flashlights. Nearby, they found the broken, overturned boat itself. On board the ship they were examined by a ship’s doctor, and on the morning of October 13 they were taken to the village of Novikovo, where representatives of a travel company were waiting for them.
Earlier, the traveler Yaroslav Sinelnikov, who traveled around half of Russia by bicycle, called the trip to Sakhalin the most dramatic event. On the way, he survived the plague of ticks and the coronavirus pandemic. Sinelnikov reached the Khabarovsk Territory, crossed the narrowest point of the Nevelskoye Strait by boat and stepped onto the island. The cyclist called this moment “the most dramatic of the entire trip”, since he had to get to the normal road through the dense taiga and swamps.
